Keeping your hardwood floors clean requires little more than regular sweeping or vacuuming. Use either a broom with a soft bristle or a vacuum with a soft brush floor attachment to pick up dust and debris. Never use a vacuum with a beater bar on hardwood floors. These additional preventative maintenance tips will ensure that your floors maintain their original beauty.
- Never use sheet vinyl or tile floor care products on wood floors, they can cause
the wood to become slippery and appear dull.
- Use throw rugs inside and outside
of doorways to help keep dirt and other abrasive debris from scratch- ing your floors.
- Never wet mop a wood floor since
standing water can dull the finish, damage the wood and discolor the surface. Be sure to also wipe up any spills immediately. We offer and recommend Bona brand cleaners and mop kits for regular maintenance to your floors.
- For wax floors, be careful not to over wax a wood floor; try buffing instead to
liven up dull spots.
- Place felt or fabric-covered glides under furniture legs to prevent scuffing &
scratching. Lift, don't slide furniture when moving it.
- Remove cleats, sports shoes and high heels before walking on your wood floors
to prevent damage.
- We recommend recoating your floors every 3-6 years, depending on wear.
Recoating involves lightly abrading the surface of the floor and applying a single coat of finish. Recoating will take out minor surface scratches and dirt that have penetrated into the surface of the finish. If areas are neglected too long and the finish is worn through, sanding and refinishing will be required.
